Starboy Wizkid had the best year in his career ever last year.
While so many of his colleagues were struggling, finding it hard to make hits or create buzz-worthy projects, Wizkid continued to ride on his “Made in Lagos” album from 2020, shattering records and making history.
The “Made in Lagos” wave was more than enough for not just a World Tour (that hasn’t ended still), but also for Billboard Hot 100 records, Grammy nominations, and sold-out O2 concerts.
It’s safe to say 2021 was Wizkid’s year. But now the “Essence” singer faces an even bigger challenge, which is continuing to stay relevant even when the MIL buzz dies down and the dust settles.
Already, the 31-year-old is already making moves that would ensure his relevance in this new year. His plan seems to be to collaborate with as many young artists as he can and put them on, keeping in his name in the conversations in the process.
Some collaborations have already been confirmed, while some are just songs we know he has recorded but is not sure about how the release would play out.
Tems, for instance, will be releasing her debut album in 2022, and she already confirmed Wizkid would be on the album as a guest. That’s one certified fire, given their last link-up was arguably the song of the year 2021.
Other collaborations that are expected in 2022 include:
Buju ft. Wizkid
Buju is expected to release an album this year.
Wizkid ft. Bella Shmurda
Wizkid has a couple of songs with Bella Shmurda, and he almost made it to “Made in Lagos” deluxe. The word on the streets is he might make it to “Soundman Vol. 2.”
Omah Lay ft. Wizkid
Omah Lay will be releasing his debut album, “Boy Alone” this year too and he has some unreleased tracks with WizKid that just might make the cut.
Fireboy ft. Wizkid
It’s confirmed, Wizkid now has a song with Fireboy. Whether it is going to make it to Fireboy’s third album remains to be seen, however.
Blaqbonez ft. Wizkid
Yes, if all goes well, there should be a Blaqbonez x Wizkid collab this year.
Wizkid ft. Victony
Victony is another youngun Wizkid will be putting on in 2022 for sure.
Ayra Starr ft. Wizkid
The Mavin artist is a Wizkid fan for sure, and it looks like Wizkid is a fan too. Now all they gotta do is drop the song!
It’s safe to say, we eating good this year. Wizkid is serving! 🤲🏼
